Cruise Update
Attention - Cruisers! Those going on Maria's Enlightenment Cruise in November your second payment of $100 is due this week. Please send and make out check to Carlson Wagonlit Travel 1235 S. Center Rd Burton MI 48509. Attention: Madelyn Schultis. Their phone number is 810-742-0450. We have more paperwork to fill out! I have forms here in my office. So please e-mail your fax number and I will fax you the form or pick up a form at one of the fair June 14 in Midland and June 21 in Lapeer. Then fax the form back to the travel agency 810-742-8031. You can call your payment in using your credit card or just mail it in.
If any of you want to go with us, we can order more double cabins. See cruise info on my website MariaShaw.com It may be a good idea to locate your birth certificate with raised seal or your passport soon as you will need it for the trip along with your drivers license.
The balance of your trip is due the first week of August. If you need round-trip transfers from the airport to the boat dock tell Madelyn or you can take a taxi in or rent a car. But remember if you rent a car, you have to pay parking for 5 days in a lot at the port.
For those of you who are traveling in sooner or staying a few days over; you should see Hollywood and all the sights. Disneyland is not far and there's lots to do in LA. You can go to the Price Is Right and other game shows if they are taping that week. Take a tour of Beverly Hills and go shopping. California has the latest styles. Jupiter in Virgo

Jupiter is the Santa Claus of the zodiac. It brings blessings, opportunities and good luck. Sometimes Jupiter can be too much of a good thing. It can make us fat, over-do and overspend. But mostly Jupiter is beneficial. It comes around to visit each sign about every 12 years. This past year it paid a visit to Leo folks. On August 27th, it bids farewell to the Lion and knocks on Virgo's door for an extended stay. It will affect each sign in a different way. However, Virgos will be the grand prize winners and able to collect their prize until September 27 of 2004. For a peek on how Jupiter in Virgo can benefit you, read further.
Aries - You'll appreciate the way Jupiter expands career opportunities. But you'll despise how it expands your waistline. Watch your diet for you may see a few extra pounds creep up! But your health will be good and you'll find happiness helping others. It's a good time to adopt a new puppy too.
Taurus - Taurus will benefit the most in relationships of the romantic kind. Jupiter will help you work out problems or issues with your kids. It'll also cause you to play hooky at work. You'll feel like kicking your shoes off and having fun! The slot machines are calling and Taurus may be luckier than imagined. Creative juices are flowing. For the Bulls that are thinking about having a family, it's an opportune time!
Gemini - It's a perfect time to buy a new house or remodel an old one. Growth and changes on the home front are very favorable now. Expanding the family is likely too. There may be good marriages, long overdue divorces, pretty babies and a general overall feeling of contentment with loved ones.
Cancer - Travel and short trips are on the agenda now. It's a fine time to purchase a new car or recreational vehicle. Relationships with brothers and sisters run smoother. New neighbors? You'll be the best of friends! It's great time to negotiate contracts, write a book and make speeches. Even if you're not one to stand and speak in front of a crowd, people will listen now to what you have to say! So speak up or forever hold your peace.
Leo - Show me the money! Jupiter presents you with one of the best financial cycles in over a decade. Make the most of it. But be careful of overspending though. Do you really need another purse or pair of black pants? You could over-pamper yourself. But isn't that what being Leo is all about? Your wallet may match the size of your generous heart for once. Ask or a raise. Play the lottery. Invest a little here and there. And maybe you do need another Gucci.
Virgo - This is YOUR year! Expand your horizons like never before. Things will drop in your lap easily. Don't settle for less. This year make the most of life. Be open to receiving....even though that's not a Virgo trait. You're a "giver" and may be feel guilty about the spotlight being on you. Indulge and bask in it because you deserve it . You may not get another chance for twelve years.
Libra - Jupiter transiting the 12th house of your natal chart brings old wounds and past hurts to the surface. Now that doesn't sound too good, does it? But wait! This year you can overcome any pain. You're able to put the past to rest. A burden will lift. People from the past may come back into your life. Many of these folks, you'll want to reconnect with. Good deeds will be repaid since this is also the house of karma. Welcome to a brand new you!
Scorpio - This year you could make a "new" best friend. You know how difficult it can be to meet new people when you get older? Well, there'll be no shortage of new meet and greets. Scorpio will have a ball socializing with new and old chums. Any type of group activities are favored, whether they be business or pleasure. Lasting long term ties can be made now.
Sagittarius - Jupiter is your ruling planet so you may always feel as if you have a guardian angel looking over your shoulder. But this year that angel is pushing you into a new career field, filled with golden opportunities and more money. Take a few risks at work, start a business, change jobs or push for a promotion. Your hard work is paying off. You'll earn lots of respect from the big boss and fellow co-workers.
Capricorn - If you've been considering going back to school, now is the time. The opportunity to do so will be presented and the path made every easy. Attend as many workshops and conferences too as they can only help your career outlook in late 2004. Spiritual pursuits are also a must as this could be one of your enlightenment years. Your psychic antenna are turned on and tuned in. Long distance travel, especially to foreign places is safe and enticing now.
Aquarius - Finding good bargains should be no problem for the water bearer. You'll be able to negotiate a good contract at work too. Lucky Jupiter brings in support from other sources like never before. Ask for a raise, a bank loan or a discount. You'll get it. Your sex life is heating up too. (Scorpions will be envious!) If attached, look for your partner to make money this year. Expect lots of nice gifts and pretty presents.
Pisces - Looking for love? It should be no problems to find your soul mate, thanks to Jupiter in your opposite sign now. If you're already smitten, you and your main squeeze will make a deeper commitment. Most all of your relationships will run smooth. So don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Just enjoy the love and adoration from your legion of fans, friends and former foes. Everyone loves a Pisces now!

Gemini and Cancer are the two signs that celebrate birthdays this month. (I am one of those and looking forward to a great solar return. See the extra article "Your Solar Return" on the website.) Because Gemini represents children and Cancer represents the "mother" sign, I thought it appropriate to write a column about kids. Whether your children are adults or little ones yet, this column is for you!
I believe that we choose our parents before we are born. If you believe in the theory of reincarnation, I feel we choose our moms and dads for our soul's growth. There are specific lessons that perhaps, we can only learn from certain people. Some folks may ask, "Why would someone choose an abusive mother or an alcoholic father?' Perhaps that soul needed to experience a difficult childhood for it's growth or maybe were unselfishly trying to help the parents.
Whatever the reason, remember this: whether you are a parent now or in the future, your child may be an older soul than you. They may have lived just as many lifetimes as you have. It's not the age of the person that really matters...it's the age of the soul! Your children are spiritual beings just as you are. They have reincarnated with specific talents, wisdom, personality traits and karma. Consider it a blessing that they have chosen you to gain more experience through. They've hand picked you to help them along their way as they develop spiritually. Maybe they are repaying a debt or allowing you to complete some karma. Perhaps you were their child in a former lifetime and now it's your turn to re-pay the favor or make amends.
The greatest opportunity that souls have to grow is through relationships with other people. Our first introduction to love is through our parents and family relationships. Think of the issues and problems you may have with your kids now. Look at them as opportunities for spiritual growth. What lessons can we learn as conflicts arise? How can we help our children develop spirituality through their difficult periods as well as their joy-filled ones? We as parents, sometimes set up roadblocks for growth and advancement, by blaming and worrying or trying to dodge problems with our kids. When your child is having a tough time, ask yourself, "what is their lesson?" And then... "what can I learn from this experience to aid in my own spiritual development?" If we look at our relationships with our kids from a spiritual standpoint, they will improve, even during the teenage years.
When you get frustrated with Sam or Suzie, remember to take a moment and honor the fact that this soul has chosen you to tackle life's lessons with. They know you can handle whatever comes their way. Show your children you care. Spend time with them. The best gift you can give is your time. Not all of the money in the world is as important as "being there" for your child. Whether they are fifteen or fifty, they need you....not just for physical and monetary support but for their souls' growth. You in turn can learn a lot from them too.
As an astrologer, I often counsel people on their children (Cancers, Virgos and Taurus always ask about kids in their readings) Your birth chart will show what role it is you are to play in your child's life and what lesson they are to learn from you. Their chart will show why their soul has specifically chosen you.
In my Scorpio daughter's chart, it's suggested that I am here to teach her about money and her own self worth. In my Cancer daughter's chart, she is suppose to learn more about using her intellectual gifts. I am a strong advocate of higher education and her soul knew I would give her opportunities to go to a good university as well as foster a love for travel, different cultures and philosophies.
Have you figured out what role you are to play in your child's life? Here's a few ideas. If you have an:
Aries - Teach them independence and pride in themselves. Praise them for their achievements. Through these kids, you will learn the art of patience and determination.
Taurus - The best thing you can give a Taurus tike is security; a solid home base and foundation to work from. In turn, you will learn about your own strength and the importance of family.
Gemini - Talk to these children. Listen to them. They need to develop their communication skills. Praise and acknowledge their creative side. From the Twins, you will learn versatility and how to look at life from different perspectives.
Cancer - They need to feel emotional secure. Give them a close-knit family. Make them feel safe. Allow them to express their feelings openly. Through them, you will experience a very deep, nurturing and loyal love. Your maternal qualities will grow.
Leo - Let them shine! Let them expand their wings and fly. Treat them like the princes and princesses they truly are. Encourage them to use their creative talents. In turn, you learn much about self pride, respect, love and loyalty.
Virgo - Tell the Virgo child that they are perfect. Teach them to love themselves for who they are, not what society thinks they should be. Then you will have a devoted and happy child. You'll learn how important the little details of life really are.
Libra - Allow this child to experience the beauty and wonder of life. Enroll them in art, dance and music classes. Set a good example in your own relationships for them to follow. You'll learn about peace and harmony. They'll teach you to create more balance in your own life and appreciate the beauty in simple things.
Scorpio - This child has a very special gift. Acknowledge and honor the power they possess to achieve anything the heart desires. But teach them to use this power for their highest good and that of others. You'll learn a great deal about transforming yourself as well as you own personal power in the process.
Sagittarius - Join them in their zest for life. Don't be too over-protective for the Sagittarius needs to experience freedom of thought and movement. They find the "positive" in every negative. In turn, you will learn to trust the universe and seek more spiritual truth in your everyday life.
Capricorn - These children are mature for their age. Many are old souls. Talk to them about tradition and family heritage. Allow them to express their opinions for they will have many! You'll learn how to honor and keep the "past" alive but still live wholeheartedly in the present.
Aquarius - Teach them about the importance of working for the betterment of mankind. Don't limit them to only your views on society. Talk about the other side of the coin too. Princess Diana was a good example of this. In turn, you will make a "difference" in the world.
Pisces - Encourage daydreaming. Allow this child to use their imagination and psychic abilities. Give them plenty of hugs and kisses. Play with them. Through these kids, you will learn the world really is a magical place. | | | Even God Enjoys a Good Laugh

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Jewish:
1. He went into His Fathers business.
2. He lived at home until he was 33.
3. He was sure his Mother was a virgin and his mother was sure he was God.
But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Italian:
1. He talked with his hands.
2. He had wine with every meal.
3. He used olive oil.
But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was a Californian:
1. He never cut his hair.
2. He walked around barefoot all the time.
3. He started a new religion.
But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Irish:
1. He never got married.
2. He was always telling stories.
3. He loved green pastures.
But the most compelling evidence of all - 3 proofs that Jesus was a woman:
1. He fed a crowd at a moment's notice when there was no food.
2. He kept trying to get a message across to a bunch of men who just didn't get it
3. And even when he was dead, He had to get up because there was more work to do.
