Astrologically speaking...
August 10-September 1 - is another mercury retrograde period. Most of you know what this means If you're new to this term, please see an old archive newsletter on my website for a lot more detail. Briefly, double check everything and don't start anything new if you can help it during this period. Things won't flow smoothly. But it's a great time to redo things and go over projects. Be careful of travel and miscommunication as well. Computer breakdowns, car trouble and more arguments are likely. be patient and plan accordingly.
If you made it through the troubling relationship periods I spoke about for May- July, then you're coming into the final stretch. You'll either end a relationship or transform it and make it better. This month is a period to go back over and analyze what you need to do in regards to love and/or money.
Now and until August 15 or so, some of you may have control issues to contend with...more than likely at work. You may even find that because of these issues, major changes will be made. Yes, that may mean you leaving and finding new work or perhaps others getting the ax.
Attention - Virgos make the most out of the next few weeks and up until September 27th while Jupiter is still in your sign. After that this lucky planet moves into the sign Libra for over 12 months and those born under Libra will have a bountiful year! |

Rev. Louise has Passed
For those of you who have come to my Michigan fairs since 1993, I wanted to let you know that Rev. Louise has passed on July 23 around 4a.m. Louise has been with us for over 11 years and was one of our most popular readers. She started out doing card readings and studied palmistry in the early 90's and became our "resident" palmist. Hundreds of people were touched by Louise's insight and advice over the years. Louise was diagnosed with cancer over two and a half years ago. The doctors told her she would only live 3-6 months. She was determined to beat the disease and continued doing our fairs and even went on our annual cruise last November out of Los Angeles! She survived much longer than doctors has ever dreamed and lived a pretty active life Louise was placed in Hospice in the spring and managed to sneak in a reading for a nurse without anyone knowing! She has one son and two grandsons, a sister and lots of client/friends around the Flint and mid-Michgan area.
I remember Louise as someone who really loved what she did. She never missed a fair except when she was sick. She loved to go out to eat and socialize with all of the ladies that we work with. She had traveled with me to New Orleans a few times and loved the city! You could always count on Louise to speak up and give her opinion on things. Her life wasn't an easy one but she certainly helped to shed hope and light on all of those people who's paths crossed her. She will be missed! |

Astrologically Speaking, Sex and Intimacy in the Birth Chart

A majority of my clients schedule consultations when they need guidance regarding their love life. Some of those people even want deeper insight into how their partner's astrology chart looks for sexual intimacy and compatibility. Over the years I have noticed certain aspects in charts that hinder intimacy. One of the most beneficial thing for a person who desires a solid relationship is the moon is good aspect and in a good sign. Someone with a moon in a difficult aspect is not going to trust other people. So there fore they become very vulnerable and choose to never get too close to anyone they love. Their challenge, more than likely, began in childhood. These people probably used protective measures such as bullying others or shying away from people so as not to get hurt. Insecurity runs rampant here. When a person's moon is in the sign of Scorpio, it's difficult for him/her to be truly intimate. It's very hard for a Scorpio moon person to talk about his or her deepest feelings.
There are times in all of our lives when astrological transits create opportunity to express intimacy or shy away from it. A key time in everyone's life is the first Saturn/venus aspect around age 14 or 15. That's when the majority of people have their first experience with love and sometimes sex. If there was a major rejection by the object of their affections at that time, it will influence their entire life and how they deal with intimacy. If someone didn't deal with their first encounter well during those teen years, they will suffer the consequences in the relationship they are involved in around age 25. I have found that women experience this aspect to be more difficult than men. Guys who had a challenging time around age 15, will worry about their sex performance around age 25 while women will have emotional issues with partners. Some guys, but not all, who have intimacy concerns want to build a "body of armor" so they won't get hurt emotionally. You'll see these types of men lift weights rigorously or get into heavy body building.
For those of you who know a little more about astrology and those of you who would like to dig deeper, here's a few aspects to look for in someone's chart when you're seeking answers on sex and intimacy:
Men with a challenging Mars/Saturn aspect may have experienced some type of abuse as a child Earth signs (Taurus, Capricorn, Virgo) may have experienced or saw physical violence in the home Water signs (Cancer, Pisces, Scorpio) may have suffered emotional abuse Air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) may have had verbal abuse Fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) Because of their early upbringing may just feel that anger is okay.
Women with a challenging Mars/Saturn aspect will find:
- their sex life diminishes and eventual dies offtheir sexual partner eventually becomes impotent or he's just plain tired all the time
- works all the time and leaves no time for intimacy with her partner
Because of this aspect, some but not all women, are intimidated by men in positions of authority and power. That could mean their husbands and lovers. These women feel a need to constantly praise their men and feel as if they are walking around on eggshells.
Men and women with a strong Venus/Uranus aspect in their charts tend to love 'em and leave 'em. Do you know someone with lots of sexual magnetism? They have no problem getting involved with someone sexually but don't want a deep commitment. There's a fear of intimacy because their need to be free is so strong. A relationship with someone who has theses aspects in their chart can end at anytime without warning. These folks have issues from childhood where a bond was broken between them and someone they cared about. Perhaps a friend moved away or a close relative died. They don't wan to get hurt again so they don't get too close to anyone emotionally. The solution to this type of relationship is to make it a long distance one. This relationship needs distance to remain steady. If both people live in close proximity, the guy or girl will feel restless and want to break free. There will be lots of break-ups for a person with a difficult venus/Uranus aspect in their chart.
Venus/Neptune aspects
If you're involve with a person who has this aspect in their chart, run! They are always longing for what they can't have. They are romanticizing or fantasizing about another relationship. But if they were actually involved with that other person, they would long for someone else! They will never be satisfied as its easier to live in a fantasy world than reality. People with this aspect may have been brought up in a similar situation, Maybe their mom was married to their dad but daydreamed or longed for her ex-boyfriend. Ask people with such an aspect in their chart and they'll tell you that their current mate is not who they're really suppose to be with. And they really believe at some point in their life, that their true soul mate will come along and whisk them away! Often their partner never feels truly loved.
Mars/Neptune aspects
If you find this aspect in a woman's chart, it is very likely the man in her life will be unfaithful. If by transit, he is could be unfaithful at the time. Another way to interpret this aspect is a woman will idolize her man, then when he makes her angry, she realizes he wasn't that special after all. This also indicates a woman who desires "great" sex.
For a man - he may feel that women don't idolize him enough and constantly searches for the type of woman that will.
The problems for both sexes here is that you can live life in nothing but a fantasy world that it disassociates yourself from your partner.
Pluto Aspects (Pluto is the ruling planet of Scorpio which rules sex)
If you find someone with a strong aspect to Pluto in the chart they may have been involved in situations as a child that made them feel anxious and intimidated.
Venus/Pluto aspect - someone with this aspect will use subtle control to get what they want. They can be very charming and manipulative in such a nice way. One may project love but it's conditional. they love you on condition.
Mars/Pluto - a person with this aspect finds intimacy very challenging because their need to "keep" control works against their desire to "lose" control in the sex act. Some people with this aspect find it hard to complete a sex act. Women may be non-orgasmic.
Perhaps you have been or are involved with someone that these profiles describe? Even if you don't understand astrology, you may recognize certain traits of lovers you've had problems with. Astrology can help us understand and help us heal. Knowledge is power. By recognizing difficult aspects in a lover's chart or our own, we can begin the healing process. Did you notice as you read through this article that many of the aspects had a lot to do with issues that began in childhood? The defense mechanisms we use as children can hurt us as adults in intimate relationships. Using age regression techniques, 3 in 1 concepts or a host of other type of therapies, could help bring us closer to overcoming intimacy obstacles and create fulfilling relationships. Knowing more about a lover's chart can help you make logical choices as to get involved with someone, further such a relationship or just "let go". |

Do you want to learn to read your own tarot cards?

I am sooo excited! Learning anything new can be scary sometimes. I remember the my introduction to the tarot. I knew nothing about the cards. Everything was foreign to me. I learned tarot reading from my mom. I was overwhelmed at first with the whole process; shuffling, cutting and reading the cards. I worried I would do something wrong and even more concerned that I might misinterpret the meanings and give someone a bad reading!
Thirteen years and thousands of readings later, using the tarot now is like riding a bike. It feels natural in my hands. My thoughts and words flow easily when discussing issues with a client. I've taught several of the ladies that work at my expos and Goddess Gatherings to read cards too. I 'm asked a lot "Is the tarot hard to learn?" The answer is "no" if the information is given in a step-by-step method. I still recall my very first reading. I was nervous with butterflies in my stomach and all! Somehow But I made it though the reading. Thankfully, my client confirmed what I had told her was true. Now, even after all these years, I sometime still get a nervous when doing a reading. But I think it's more from a feeling of excitement rather then a point of being scared. Every person I read, has a fascinating story to tell. It unfolds in the card spreads before our very eyes.
It was almost three years ago when my Llewellyn acquisitions editor Megan and I toyed with the ideas of producing my tarot kit; a beginners guide. We talked about it for month and after my book Star Gazer was released, Megan gave me the go-ahead for Maria Shaw's Tarot Kit.
It comes with a book, a deck of cards and a pouch to keep the cards in. I wrote the guidebook with myself in mind (when I first started my tarot lessons) and for all of you "beginners" who may see learning the tarot as something almost impossible. The kit is fun and real easy to master. If you follow the steps in the book, you'll find the tarot is so easy to grasp. It covers everything from how to pick your deck to tarot spreads to card care. There are literally hundreds of decks on the market these days. It can be very difficult to choose among them which deck is best for you. The deck that comes with my kit is one of the most widely used and quite popular among all age groups. More on the deck later!
The book shows you lots of different layouts. You can start with a simple layout with just a few cards and work up to year long fortune telling spread. Ancient spreads used by gypsies hundreds of years ago are included as well as a few love oriented layouts.
The book will also give you a complete and detailed description of each card, including the upright and reverse positions. Some uninformed people believe that the death card means someone is going to die. That's not true! The death card is a good card and means re-birth and change. Another fact you may not know is that the tarot can tell time. A reading should be able to give you a season, month or even a day when things will happen. My book gives you lots of details, you won't find in many beginner books. Most cover just the basics. I cover all the bases as well as the tiniest details; from the history of this ancient art to what type of box you should store your cards in and the best time of the month to give a reading. (probably by my four planets in Virgo helped me along!). You'll probably be an expert reader when you've finished this guide.
I love the cards that comes with this collection! They are the Universal card deck and have beautiful images. They're not scary or frightening like some of the artwork I have seen in other decks. The tarot is not meant to be frightening, just a helpful guide to your future. A tarot reading is a like a flashlight. It can light your way but you still walk your own path. The cards guide but they don't decide. You make your own decisions. Where I find the tarot to be is most helpful, is by giving us choices and alerting us of upcoming challenges and opportunities.
Most of my clients have questions regarding their love life. Because it's a big theme with my work, I've designed a few original layouts for you to learn about romance and even the break-ups you may go through. The book also shows you the spread I use when I do readings for clients. Many of you have sat before me as I laid out your future on a table at a party, expo, fair or gathering. Now, you can learn a few of my secrets!
The tarot is a great tool to help you get the answers you seek. It's been used for hundred of years by people all over the world. If it didn't have merit, it wouldn't be around today. A tarot reading helps us see things in a different light, gives us solutions to problems and helps us get in touch with our spiritual side. My goal is that if you'd ever had the desire or cursorily to learn more about reading tarot, you'll grasp everything you need to know and won't feel overwhelmed in the process. I want you to have fun with this and then maybe who knows? Do some readings for your family and friends..... or maybe even become a professional reader one day yourself!
