One of our most popular readers at our New Orleans psychic fair, Charles Affholter, has written this article that I hope you find most interesting! He will be appearing on Sunday only at the fair at the House of Broel. You may book a prior appt with him or just walk in. Sunday we will have extended hours because of the Crossing Over Gallery Sunday night. So you can see Charles 11a.m. to 5p.m. and then again 7p.m. to 9p.m. If you come in the evening, you must make a prior appt. He will also offer a free class at the fair on how to get rid of painful memories. Interesting and informative!
When I first met Charles I felt he was from a different time period. He seems so wise and such an old soul. He appears to be someone who should be in the Victorian era; such a gentle soul with much knowledge to share. He is very sincere and knowledgeable. I know you will enjoy meeting him!
Using Your Inner Oracle
By Charles Affholter
caffholter@gmail.com (to book appt at the fair)
In planning this article, I considered several options, perhaps a discourse on the symbolism of feet in the visual language of the Rider Waite Smith tarot deck, but I wanted to offer you something actually useful to you. Instead of feet, I'm going to share a technique for gaining a greater level of self-awareness and insight. I'll teach you a way to access your own inner well of knowledge from which you can draw concrete, practical wisdom.
That well is your unconscious or subconscious mind. From contemporary psychological and neurological research, we know that our subconscious remembers everything we have ever learned. It analyses more accurately and quickly than our conscious mind, and can, according to a number of scientific experiments, employ pre-cognition to a limited extent. This is important because it suggests that many abilities perceived as paranormal or supernatural may simply be natural but underdeveloped.
This insight into your subconscious is useful because half the time we don't know our own minds. We make decisions without realizing it. We don't know why we think or feel a certain way. The process I'll teach you will give you remarkably accurate insight into what you really think, the assessments your subconscious mind has made about the people and situations around you, and, I believe, possibly higher guidance as well. I present: the Thought Dial.
As you may know, the Thought Dial was the brainchild of Sydney Omarr, "astrologer to the stars". He adapted it from the writings of Walter Gorn Old, who wrote under the name Sepharial. In "The Kabbalah of Numbers", Sepharial wrote about, but intentionally did not explain, a way of "thought reading by numbers". Omarr simplified Sepharial's method, such as it was, and introduced one of the most useful divinatory tools I've ever found to the world at large.
The method is very simple. Suppose you are trying to pick between two options regarding a trip. While focusing your mind on those options, let three single digits come into your mind. This is not a "pick a number" game. Let your subconscious give you the numbers; just be open and listen. Add these together and reduce them to a single digit. This single digit, rather its symbolic value, is what your subconscious is trying to communicate to you.
If you understand basic numerological symbolism, you can then spend some time meditating on the symbol and letting your mind freely draw connections between the symbolism and the situation you are seeking insight about. This exercise in free association will often give you the wisdom you need. I use it all the time and it works.
In case you don't know much about numerology, here is a description of basic numerological symbolism. You will note that I also incorporate color symbolism into numerology because we intuitively understand colors. They speak to us instinctually and effectively. Learning both will make it easier to remember either.
Basic Number and Color Symbolism
1 One
As you may imagine, one is a number of beginnings. Associated with the color red, one is the "Type A" personality of numbers. Passionate, solitary, and self-motivating, a one is a number of innate possibility. In a deck of cards, the aces are counted as ones, and each ace symbolizes a beginning of something, a new start, or an unexpected turn. Imagine the aces as cars at a red light, revving to go, ready to burst out of their confines with energy, vying to overtake and pass those around them.
The independence of the one is both a good trait and a potential pitfall. Who do you know who holds everything in, accepts no help from anyone, and is a less happy person because of it? The ones will always need balance. Where they can maintain it on their own, well and good, but when it begins to shift, they need another to act as a counter weight to their own inner and outer dynamism. You put two ones together, you get the number...
2 Two
Two's are a fairly easy number to interpret as well. They suggest the coming together of forces, which requires an ability to use tact and diplomacy. Of course, two's are marked by duality. Besides signifying the union of things, they can indicate the abandoning of tact and diplomacy, creating crossed purposes and tension.
The color associated with two is orange, a friendly, warm color, but also one used as a warning. If you remember that yellow is associated with the number three, you can see orange two as the midway color between red and yellow, a color that only exists as a blending of two other colors.
3 Three
Long held to be a mystic number, three symbolizes growth and expansion. Easy to remember as the couple producing a third person, three indicates a growth that is physical-perhaps a birth, mental-a symbol of intelligence, material-expanding a house or business, and spiritual-think the Trinity, the third eye, etc.
As noted above, three's color is yellow. One of the primary colors, yellow is a sign of royalty in the Orient, a color associated with the sun. Perhaps the yellow sun-flowers of spring will bring the idea of growth to your mind.
Three's are very creative, needing space to move, but often needing grounding as well. Imagine a triangle as a mountain with someone climbing it to see over a great distance. The danger of the visionary is that he continues straight up into the clouds, leaving those behind who need his insight.
The other problem is the triangle getting turned wrong side down, the point digs into the ground and growth is halted; stubbornness sets in. The balance of the one's independent streak and the two's ability to bring others in is the key to the three's fulfilling its goals.
4 Four
The boxy four means, rather unimaginatively, stability and consistency. The number four is methodical and routine. This can be positive, but also restricting. Associated with green, frequently seen as a color of healing, the green of ordinary time (for the catholic or Anglican reader) can be a needed settling down of a hectic life. I like to imagine perfect squares of sod in a yard of mostly dirt. The cubic grass tries to conquer the unruly wildness of the soil. Of course, recently placed sod can't be walked on. Perhaps the need to control isn't always the right response. The sod needs rain to grow, and rain reminds us of the blue sky, which is the color associated with...
5 Five
Five's are the unsettling of the four, the unstable fifth wheel. Symbolizing both freedom and instability, the five is, like many numbers, somewhat bivalent. They can be good or not so good, depending on the context. Some people get wound too tight and need to let loose a little. Others never settle down, and that can be burdensome on those around them. Where are you? Needing a little room to cut loose or trying to get the scattered pieces back together?
Five's color is blue. Now six is indigo, which is a shade of blue...a little confusing. I remember the five as a sky blue, open and free, but potentially stormy. Like a little boy, blue fives can be playful and mischievous. Little boys need a mother to settle them down, and that helps you to remember...
6 Six
As noted, six is associated with the color indigo. This rich, deep blue helps me to remember the meaning of the number. Traditional iconography depicts the Virgin Mary, the Blessed Mother, in a deep blue veil. Sixes are a number of home, family, nurturing, and caring. I picture Mother Mary with the Christ Child, cradling Him in Her mantle. (I am a devout Catholic, so you will note the use of catholic symbols in some of my memory cues.)
Sixes, a multiplication of the three, are sustained growth, many children, deepening love, harmony and balance, all things you need in a family. One of my favorite books as a small child was "The Six Little Possums", a very good reminder to me of the homey indications of the number six.
7 Seven
Seven is, perhaps, the number with which we have the deepest fascination as human beings. To the ancient Hebrews, it symbolized completion. To the Chinese, trouble. It is often heralded as lucky, as mystic, as a number of power, and so it is. Sevens mean all of these things swirling around the central idea of wisdom.
We gain wisdom through our challenges; we gain it through completion, that is, maturity. Good luck is the residue of hard work, and wizards were, more than magicians, wise men.
In the church, seven's color, violet, is that given to Bishops, the wise shepherds of the flock. Violet is a shade of purple, a color associated with wealth and authority. "When I am old, I shall wear purple..." Remember the best fruit of age is wisdom.
8 Eight
Eights are stuck in a cycle, unable to move easily. Things get better, then a little worse, then a little better. An eight needs a way to get going again.
Their color, bronze, is the first level of achievement. The beginnings of mastery, eights are fairly successful, though like the infinity symbol, have difficulty getting out of their loop, so to speak. They tend to be self-focused and materialistic; they need to expand...
9 Nine
Associated with the moon, nines are the ends of cycles, just like the waxing moon. Three multiplied times itself, nine is a number of exponential growth and completion (the ninth inning), bringing.
The metal silver connected with the nine solidifies its ties to the moon and the night, from which come both the dark things of midnight and the rising sun. Silver also references another aspect of the nine, that of philanthropy (that expansion needed by the eight). The mark of true success is the willingness to give back.
10 Ten
Ten's are the extension of the one. They can be a new cycle after the completion of the nine, or the burden of too much success. Whereas nines seem to indicate a slightly magical result, tens are quite concrete and real world.
The metal gold is the color of the ten. The perfect ten wins the gold medal. Easy to remember, but easy to miss the other side of the gold coin. If you have lots of gold, you must guard it.
The process once more:
1. Let 3 numbers (they can be any numbers, but I prefer single digits) just come to you. You're not picking them; you're letting your subconscious talk to you.
2. Add these up and reduce to a single digit.
3. Meditate on your situation in light of the numerological symbolism of that digit.
That's all there is to it. It's simple, easy, and effective. When you need a little wisdom about a situation, let your own inner oracle speak to you. I use it and I hope you will too. Good luck and God bless. |
Astro News For the New Year
By Maria Shaw
(Please feel free to share on Facebook or with friend but please give credit for my work)
In 2012, the way we look at our lives, our culture and society is changing. It's as if we will experience a "wake up" call. We are seeing and BELIEVING that we create the world we live in. It is our perceptions and thoughts that create what we manifest. This shift in consciousness started a while back but in 2012, we see how this shift in perception will affect the entire world. The process will take another four years. But please be prepared and understand that everything you think, feel, do and act on, has an effect on this planet. We are ONE.
January 2012 begins this massive adjustment to a new way of thinking and perceiving. Mars in Virgo will move backwards until mid April. Mars is the god of war and in the sign of Virgo, we "analyze" just as Virgo does. We will analyze our past. We understand that old methods no longer serve our purpose. We will analyze our future and make decisions based on our new spiritual ideals.
In January, the decisions we make about our lives, chart a course for us that lays a foundation for the entire year. Many of us will be making decisions regarding our financial future. Some will finally open a business. Other people may move to create a better quality of life in a new area.
The Full Moon on January 9th is in Cancer (home and family) while the Sun is in Capricorn (work) and Saturn is in Libra (sign of balance). I just received a one-question email reading request from an Aries who asked if she would be able to balance her professional and personal life this year. This is something we all will be coping with.
When Mars goes retrograde on January 23, we will rethink our life's goals and our future plans. However, it is not a good time to start new projects until after April 13th. For these twelve weeks January 23rd – April 13th, you should be only be PLANNING long term goals you want to accomplish the next two years. Long-term goals with specific steps in mind are best. If you plan to open a business in the future, do strategic planning between now and April. Ask yourself what you really want to do and where you really want to be. Mars retrograde in Virgo will offer you insight to do this. Use this time wisely to plan.
If you have no clue as to what you want to do, then mars retrograde give you 12 weeks to gain some insight. Things may just cross your path and new ideas may emerge.
There is always a challenge with Mars Retrograde and for many people it may bring frustration and anger issues to the surface. Whatever hurt or anger has been set aside, now it comes up. This happens so you can look for resolutions and healing.
But if not handled, the anger could grow and explosive emotional volcanoes' could erupt. I keep psychically seeing someone out there reading this newsletter and having troubles with an ex-husband. It could involve court matters, custody issues or the like. If this is you and you are reading this, try to resolve this and not get sucked into the drama. You will be pulled into it easily by the ex husband. Do not allow this to happen. Keep your cool and do not allow emotions to get the best of you.
On February 3rd, Neptune, the planet which represents spirituality moves back into the sign it rules, Pisces, and plans to stay until March 30, 2025
Neptune will pack a more powerful punch now that it is back in the sign it rules. It hasn't been in Pisces since 1848 so lets welcome it home!
In astrology, this is a big deal! Neptune has no boundaries. It's an energy that highlights, music, art, acting, spirituality, the paranormal, transcendence, etc. Neptune wants forgiveness and compassion. Neptune's move into Pisces, will be our biggest help in making a new future as it is associated with our beliefs and perceptions and how they affect the entire world.
We, as society have forgotten that we are divine beings and Neptune will call on us to remember that we are just that. It will help us transcend and think on a deeper spiritual level than we have been.
Notice the television shows, the books coming out in print, the magazine articles you are reading and even Oprah, have been moving in this direction.
I remember years ago, my publicist would try to book me on the Oprah show but producers weren't buying the spiritual stuff back then. They thought it was all woo-woo. Now, in the past few years, we are seeing this great media influence called Oprah, slowly shift into offering spiritual articles, interviews and information.
The media is very powerful in introducing and shaping people's opinions. Neptune rules art, music, movies, etc. so we will be hearing and seeing more spirituality in these genres. As we spiritually grow on an individual basis, so does our energy and that energy links with others and so on and so on. Thus in a subtle way, our opinions change, our direction and meaning in life, our schools, our movement, our society. Neptune is what you cannot see.
You can thank Neptune for this. It's like a fog, slowly moving overhead with no boundaries, seeping into every nook and cranny of the world. Again, in the sign of Pisces, it is more powerful than ever and will make 2012 a year of incredible change because our perceptions and ideals will transcend. They are more open to Spirit. We are anxious, willing to learn, accept and embrace spiritual truths. What an exciting time to be alive!
Notice your dreams are more lucid and revealing too during Neptune's return to Pisces. This is just another way your subconscious can reveal to you important messages that may guide you into making amazing changes.
When you book your new years phone or in person readings with me or even if you choose to do a one question email reading through my website, be sure to ask me to read where specifically Neptune and Pisces fall in your specific chart. This area, unique to each individual, gives you insight as to how Neptune is getting ready to transcend your life!
Blessings to you all, Maria |
